Computers are great things to use but they can also cause more problems than they are worth. You need to be able to rely on your computer for it to be of any use to you. If you can't rely on your computers then this will be because of various computer errors which are wreaking havoc. Learning about these problems will help to make your computer much more reliable and this should make it much easier to trust it.
What Is IKernel.exe?
IKernel.exe is an application component of the “Install Shield” program. This file is used to control all the processes that Install Shield needs to process when installing an application. It’s basically like the “work-horse” for all the Install Shield application, and is vital for installing various programs on your PC. Unfortunately, this file is continually causing errors on your system.
When you have an ikernel error, it means your installer is not working. The reason for this usually is there is something missing from it. So, you must replace this missing part so the Microsoft installer can work and you can get on with your business of installing the program you have been unable to install.
The first thing to do to fix IKernel.exe is to reload this file from the Windows XP CD. As it's a main Windows component, the IKernel.exe file is stored on the Windows XP installation disc so that it can be placed on your PC if Windows wants to install it. To fix the error, it's advised you load up the XP CD inside the command-prompt and then use the "expand" command to transfer it to your PC.
However, I have found, more often than not an ikernal.exe error is a registry error. So, cleaning the registry will fix the error and make your Microsoft installer usable once again. In essence, cleaning the registry will do everything the expand command will do except you won't need to know the file you're looking for or how to use the expand command. Also, you won't even need the Windows installation disk.
